International Health Certificates

Traveling out of the country with your pet? Start as soon as you know your travel dates, because preparing for some countries can take several months.

Before your appointment, fill out the USDA’s pet owner worksheet and bring it with you. It asks about your destination, travel dates, your pet’s microchip and rabies vaccine, and any rules from your airline or cruise line.

How It Works

  • Every country sets its own rules, and some need vaccines, tests or treatments ahead of time. Look up yours on the USDA Pet Travel website.
  • We fill out and sign your pet’s health certificate. Many countries also need the USDA to endorse (co-sign) it, and the USDA charges its own fee for that.
  • Certificates are only good for a short time, so the final paperwork happens close to your travel date. The original signed copy travels with your pet.
  • Traveling with a dog? The CDC has its own rules for dogs coming back into the U.S., and some of that paperwork may need to be done before you leave.
